2. German 78 - 4 side 1 Translator: It has been said that evolution is progressing on , on , on, on. But if you look at the human race and its existence so long and she cannot verify that its < 0:09:37.7 > much better. Gururaj: Very true. It’s true. During the time of Christ , that was 2,000 years ago, people had the same tendencies that they have today. There are always those that have love in them and there are always those that have hatred in them. So the question would remain, has man really evolved? Finished? Good. Good, so the question would remain, has man really progressed because the characteristics do remain the same. Right. Now we can go back 5,000 years during the time of Krishna, right. Who also taught the same messa ge which we are teaching today, yet during the time of Krishna there were wars, the re was bloodshed and man today is the same as he was 5,000 years ago, yet there has been no evolution in man’s character. So there has been technological evolution which has been the development of man’s intellect. A 100 years ago if you tell someone that a big machine can fly , they would think you are mad and yet today we find thousands of aeroplanes flying through the sky and we do not even take notice of them. Yeah, so there has been technological advancement but t here has been no advancement as far as a person’s character is concerned. Now this is one of my main teachings as opposed to the teachings of many other teachers. There are teachers in this world that would promise you that an age of enlightenment will com e, this is not true, it is a falsity. Good, and even if we could go back to pre - historic times, even to the time of the Neolithic man, time of the Neolithic, pre - historic man, there too you had the friction between on Neolithic man with the other. When the y hunted the animal, the one would fight with the other same that their stone implement, or for example, spear reached the animal first and this animal that is killed is mine and not yours. So from pre - historic times till today, man has not evolved collect ively. So there could never be an age of enlightenment where all men can be enlightened. Now when we talk of evolution, we mean something entirely different. We do not mean the collective whole, but we mean the individual self. We talk of the evolution of the individual atom and how that atom goes through various processes until it reaches the stage of man and then from man to god - man and then finally he merges into god himself. Now this can be accomplished through evolutionary means on an individual basis . Now the whole of creation or the whole of evolution is one vast continuum. On the left - hand side it is going on eternally and on the right - hand side, it is also eternal and this cont inuum is begin less and endless, it had no beginning and no end therefor e it is eternal and what we with our small minds are viewing is just a small section in this vast continuum and it is in this small section that time exists but looking at it as a whole continuum there is no time. Now within the narrow confines there is time and time is the factor which is involved in evolution. Now, as these millions of atoms are evolving from the primal stage, they enter this field which is within our vision and it enters this fi eld as the primal amoebic cell and progresses within this range to the state of the highest man. So the evolution is there within our field of vision. So, as many primal cells are coming in from the one side, the enlightened man is living this field on the other side. So there is a continuous flow.

3. German 78 - 4 side 1 Those from the other side, the very low become higher and higher and when those become higher and higher, the space left cannot be a vacuum – cannot remain empty so that which is beyond our sphere of vision, from the one side, enters into that field. So within this sphere there is a continuous coming from one sid e and going out the other side and that is why that field of vision ca n never be to tally enlightened because total enlightenment of the world is against all laws of nature. It can only become totally enlightened if we block the passage on the right hand side and we block the pas sage on the left hand side and keep all those atoms within t hat little sphere evolving -- evolving all the time, but that is an impossibility. Therefore, enlightenment in this world, total enlightenment in this world is at a total impossibility because when we stop this flow, enlightenment will not result, but stag nation will result and who has ever heard of stagnated enlightenment? (Laughs) So the – oh the time? The – the machine --

1. German 78 - 4 side 1 Gururaj: -- and using time at our disposal in its proper way is to use time to its h ighest ethical and moral value for any philosophy is of no value if it is not practical. Theories that fill the mind can do nothing for you in the evolutionary process and one ounce of theory is worth 10,000 pounds of – of one ounce of practice is worth 10 ,000 pounds of theory. So the concept of time, though governed by the mind as we spoke about, has still to be made real by its practical use. I will tell you a story of what pract icality is. In India there was a large river, on one side of the river were s o many villages and on the other side of the river were the cities. So everyday morning and evening, the people from the river had to go to the city on a ferry boat, from the village they got to go to work to the city and they had to use buses and ferry bo ats to take them to work and to bring them home. Now most of the people that were living in the village were peasant people, illiterate people, good, but also there were some educated people, so on this one ferry boat there was one pandit travelling. Now a pandit means a learned man in the scriptures and every day, like people in the Western countries, also they got -- they take their 8:00 o’clock or 10 past 8 train, or quarter past 8:00 train, so like that every one that had to reach their work used to tak e their particular time of ferry boat and this learned man, this pandit, used to speak to the peasants and he used to ask, “Did you read the Upanishads?” They used to say, “No.” “Did you study the Vedas?” They say, “No. ” “Did you study Yajnavalkya ?” They s ay, “No.” – Navalkya, they say, “No.” “Read Patanjali?”, “No , ” and like that he mentioned all the great teachers that existed whose works this pandit had studied. One day a storm came up and the ferry boat started rocking, and the storm was so severe that the ferry boat capsized. Now this one peasant, illiterate man, that used to s it everyday next to the pandit asked the pandit, “Can you swim?” Yeah, the pandit couldn’t swim so he sank and all his studies of those scriptures did not help him, but this peasa nt man, yeah ̧ knowing that he had to cross the river twice a day, up and down, first learned how to swim, and that is practical because one day this – the river might become rough and his knowledge of swimming would be helpful and all those books of the pa ndit were of no use at all. So therefore I say, all the philosophical theories of the world are of no use if things are not practical. Now the most practical thing to do now is 1:00 O’clock and everybody must go for lunch. Okay, fine. You took one hour for your question – thank you. So the next satsang and the last one -- Translator: 3:00 O’clock. Gururaj: At 3:00 O’clock, good. Namaste, see you later. Enjoy your lunch. In meditating even for a few minutes with your guru, we shall meditate. (Chants p rayer)
